Gmail offline mode

Gmail now has an offline mode. This is very cool. Not so important for my home PC, but a complete godsend on my laptop.

Amazingly, it works a whole lot faster on Google Chrome. Doesn't help my laptop, though, because that runs Linux and Chrome doesn't.

The coolness that is Battlestar

I simply cannot get over how great Battlestar Galactica is. Watching old episodes, with commentary from Ron D. Moore's podcast, I'm reminded of how excellent this show was right from the start; this compares favourably to other scifi favourites of mine, Babylon 5 and Star Trek: Deep Space 9, both of which started poorly and got to be great eventually.

It's been a long time since I've been just aching to see the next episode. After last week's shock suicide, I am almost fearful of what they're going to hit me with next. What a thrill.

New MT

The nice folks at LivingDot have upgraded me to MovableType 4.23. Yay. Entry creation is still pig slow, alas.

New order

Stealing freely from my good friend and colleague Lee, I'm going to do more regular blog updates. Since I work in technology, this will probably mean more technical stuff. I imagine it will also include a lot more ranting about my employer, since that seems to be my favourite sport at the moment.

Thank you America

I'm not an American, and I have nothing remotely profound to say about the wonderful spectacle of Obama's inauguration. Instead, I'll just quote this extraordinary passage:

As for our common defence, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals. Our founding fathers, faced with perils we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a charter expanded by the blood of generations. Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience's sake. And so to all other peoples and governments who are watching today, from the grandest capitals to the small village where my father was born: know that America is a friend of each nation and every man, woman, and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity, and we are ready to lead once more.

Week of blech

I've been sick all week. The doctor said I'm in 'bronchitis territory', whatever that means. It's been crap.

The article title speaks for itself.
